Kwesi Appiah Boycotts Sudan Training Camp Over Unpaid Salaries

1

Ghanaian coach James Kwesi Appiah has reportedly boycotted Sudan’s training camp in protest over unpaid salaries and bonuses.

According to AfricaSoccer.com, Appiah has been absent from Sudan’s 12-day training camp in Saudi Arabia as the team intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which resume in the coming days.

Since taking charge of the Sudanese national team, Appiah has been credited with transforming their fortunes. Under his leadership, the Falcons of Jediane have shown significant improvement, recording important victories in the World Cup qualifiers and reigniting hope among Sudanese supporters of reaching their first-ever global finals. His tactical discipline, reliance on local talent, and ability to instil belief in the squad have been widely praised both at home and abroad.

Appiah’s absence from the camp, however, has cast uncertainty over Sudan’s immediate plans, especially with crucial qualifying fixtures on the horizon. The stand-off highlights growing concerns about the financial management of the national team and could risk destabilising the momentum Sudan have built under the former Ghana coach.
