Ghanaian-Belgian international and Manchester City winger, Jérémy Doku, on Monday, 15th July 2025, paid a memorable courtesy visit to His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, at the historic Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

Doku was accompanied by a delegation of close family members, including his parents, wife, brother, and siblings, who all took part in the cultural homage to the Asante monarch. The visit was part of the football star’s ongoing trip to Ghana, which has included philanthropic engagements, media appearances, and cultural explorations.

The family was led by Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE, a respected British-Ghanaian media entrepreneur and cultural ambassador, who has played a key role in connecting Ghana’s global diaspora with traditional and state leadership.

During the visit, Doku and his family were warmly welcomed by Otumfuo and the traditional leaders of the Asanteman Council. The Manchester City forward expressed his deep admiration for the rich heritage of the Ashanti Kingdom and shared his excitement at reconnecting with his Ghanaian roots.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, in return, commended Doku for his humility and for recognising the importance of cultural identity, despite his global stardom. The King encouraged him to continue making Ghana proud both on and off the pitch and used the opportunity to urge the youth to embrace discipline, hard work, and a sense of purpose.

Jérémy Doku, who was born in Belgium to Ghanaian parents, rose to prominence with Anderlecht and Rennes before sealing a big-money move to English Premier League champions Manchester City. He recently played a pivotal role in City’s 2024/25 title defence and continues to be one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.

His visit to the Manhyia Palace is seen as a strong statement of cultural reconnection and pride — a moment that bridges his heritage and global influence.
