Manchester United’s hopes of landing Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo have been dashed after the player committed his future to AFC Bournemouth by signing a new long-term contract with the Premier League club.
Semenyo, who was reportedly on United’s radar as a potential attacking option ahead of the 2025/26 season, has opted to stay with the Cherries following an impressive campaign last season. The 24-year-old scored 10 goals and provided five assists across all competitions, playing a pivotal role in Bournemouth’s solid mid-table finish under manager Andoni Iraola.
United were believed to have monitored the Ghanaian international closely, with scouts attending several Bournemouth matches during the latter half of the season. However, any hopes of securing the dynamic forward were dashed after Bournemouth moved swiftly to tie him down with an improved deal, reflecting his growing importance to the squad.
Speaking after signing the contract, Semenyo expressed his delight and reaffirmed his commitment to the club’s long-term vision.
“I’m very happy to extend my stay at Bournemouth. This is a club that believed in me, and I feel like I’m improving every day here. I’m looking forward to building on what we achieved last season and helping the team go even further,” Semenyo said.
The decision comes as a blow to Manchester United, who are in the market for attacking reinforcements following a transitional season under Erik ten Hag. While United had not made a formal bid, insiders suggest the club was seriously considering Semenyo as a versatile option capable of playing across the front line.
Semenyo joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in January 2023 and has since become a fan favourite at the Vitality Stadium, admired for his pace, work ethic, and clinical finishing.
His decision to stay puts an end to speculation around his immediate future, and gives Bournemouth a major boost ahead of the new season, where they hope to push for a top-half finish.
