Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao has paid a heartfelt tribute to Ricky Hatton following the former British world champion’s passing, describing him as both a great fighter and a kind-hearted man.

Pacquiao, who famously shared the ring with Hatton in their 2009 showdown, spoke with deep respect about his late rival. “I am deeply saddened by the news of Ricky Hatton’s passing. He was not only a remarkable fighter in the ring but also a courageous and kind-hearted man in life,” Pacquiao said.

Reflecting on their shared history, the Filipino icon continued: “We shared unforgettable moments in boxing history, and I will forever honour the respect and sportsmanship he displayed. Ricky fought bravely, not just in the ring, but throughout his life’s journey. He truly gave it his all, and we are blessed to have been part of his extraordinary story.”

Pacquiao ended his tribute with a message of sympathy to Hatton’s loved ones: “My heartfelt prayers and sincerest condolences go out to the Hatton family and all his loved ones. May the Lord grant them strength and comfort during this difficult time. May Ricky rest in eternal peace.”

Hatton, known as “The Hitman”, was one of Britain’s most popular fighters, capturing world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight before retiring in 2012. His passing has been met with tributes from across the sporting world, with many hailing his courage, charisma and contribution to boxing.
