The Municipal Chief Executive for Effutu, Atta Mensah, together with renowned former boxer and now promoter Ayitey Powers and his team, have paid a courtesy call on the Director of the National Sports College, Fuseini Bawah, ahead of preparations for this year’s Aboakyer Festival.

The meeting focused on exploring collaborative efforts to stage boxing and weightlifting competitions as part of activities for the 2026 Aboakyer Festival, scheduled for May in Winneba.

Mr Bawah assured the delegation of the College’s readiness to offer the necessary support to ensure the successful organisation of the sporting events.

Hon. Mensah expressed satisfaction with the progress and achievements of the College under the current administration. He noted that he initiated the idea of bringing boxing events to Winneba and deliberately chose the Aboakyer Festival as the platform to introduce the sport to the local community. According to him, the National Sports College remains the most appropriate institution to partner with in delivering a successful event.

Ayitey Powers also expressed optimism about the proposed collaboration, emphasising his hope that the partnership would extend beyond a single event and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of sport in Winneba.
