Meet Referee William Agbovi Jnr – The Youngest Whistler in the Ghana Premier League
Born in the Volta Region and driven by discipline, ambition, and passion, William Agbovi Jnr has risen from the grassroots to the Ghana Premier League, making history as the league’s youngest match official.
At just 22 years of age, William Agbovi Jnr has etched his name into the history books of the Ghana Premier League as its youngest referee. He is closely followed by George Effah from the Eastern Region, another promising official groomed under the Catch Them Young policy.
On Matchday Two of the current season, Agbovi Jnr took charge of the fixture between Dreams FC and Hearts of Oak, marking his debut at the top level.
Born on 1st August 2003 and nurtured through the refereeing structures of the Volta Region, his remarkable rise is a testament to discipline, ambition, and a deep passion for the sport.
His elevation to the Premier League officiating panel not only underscores his individual talent but also reflects the new direction of Ghanaian refereeing under the current Ghana Football Association (GFA) administration.
The 22-year-old will now share the spotlight with established names such as Daniel Laryea, George Vormawah, Charles Bulu, Julian Nunoo and several others.
