Chief Executive Officer of Nations FC, Kennedy Boakye Ansah, has thrown his support behind a proposed amendment to the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) statutes, which seeks to extend the presidential term limit from two to three terms.

The motion, which has received backing from FIFA, is set to be voted on during the upcoming GFA Congress scheduled for 12 August 2025. If approved, the amendment would allow a sitting GFA president to serve for a maximum of 12 years, up from the current limit of eight.

Speaking in an interview with journalist Nathan Quao, Mr Boakye Ansah remarked: “I don’t think it’s a bad idea for Kurt Okraku to have a third term. That is my personal opinion.” He was, however, quick to emphasise that any prospective candidate, including the incumbent, must still secure the mandate of Congress to continue in office.

The vote, to be held at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, will involve 124 Congress members. Should the proposal be ratified, it would not automatically grant a third term to the current president but would create the constitutional provision to enable one.

Support for the amendment appears to be growing among football clubs, with many citing the importance of leadership continuity in driving the long-term development of Ghanaian football.

Since assuming office in 2019, GFA President Kurt Okraku has overseen a series of reforms focused on grassroots football, youth development, and the women’s game. While his tenure has attracted both commendation and criticism, there is a noticeable increase in support for his continued leadership across key stakeholder groups, including the Premier League, Division One, and Women’s Premier League.
