Accra, December 15, 2025 – The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, on Monday inaugurated the new Governing Board of the National Sports Authority (NSA), charging its members to implement bold structural reforms to revitalise Ghana’s sports sector.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister emphasised that the board’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for Ghanaian sports and urged members to move beyond ceremonial duties to deliver tangible change. “The expectations are high, and we must do better,” he said.

Hon. Adams highlighted a shift in national priorities, noting that sports administration must now focus not only on medals and competitions but also on economic impact, job creation, athlete welfare, sustainable infrastructure, social cohesion, and digitised governance. He acknowledged Ghana’s abundant talent and passion for sports but pointed to persistent challenges, including inefficiencies, outdated structures, and systemic gaps.

“The NSA is the backbone of our sports ecosystem,” the Minister stressed. “If the Authority is strong, the sector progresses; if it is weak, everything else struggles.”

He cited recent progress under his administration, including improved stakeholder engagement, decentralisation initiatives, and better facility management, but insisted these were only initial steps. The sector, he said, now requires urgent structural reforms, sharper policy alignment, and a performance-driven approach.

Key tasks for the new board include reviewing the 2016 Sports Act, developing a comprehensive national sports policy, and prioritising commercialisation, athlete protection, digital systems, gender equity, disability inclusion, infrastructure development, and private-sector investment.

The Minister pledged the Ministry’s full support and called on the board to act with urgency and integrity. “This is a call to duty,” he concluded.

The 15-member board is chaired by Dr. Fred Awaah. Other members are:
