Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has confirmed that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is currently not ready to host the upcoming GHALCA Top 4 tournament.

According to Mr Ankrah, essential maintenance and refurbishment works at the stadium needs to be done, and the venue cannot meet the required standards in time for the pre-season competition.

“While we recognise the significance of the GHALCA Top 4 tournament in Ghana’s football calendar, the current state of the Baba Yara Stadium does not permit us to host matches there at this time,” Mr Ankrah explained.

He further emphasised that the NSA, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and other stakeholders, is working diligently to complete the upgrade works to ensure the facility is fully operational for future engagements, including the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.

The GHALCA Top 4 tournament, organised by the Ghana League Clubs Association, features the top four teams from the previous Premier League season. It serves as a preparatory tournament ahead of the domestic season and often draws large crowds, scouts, and national attention.

With Baba Yara Stadium ruled out, organisers are now expected to consider alternative venues such as the Accra Sports Stadium, Cape Coast Stadium, or Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.
