Nungua Tigers, Accra Panthers spark redemption and drama in week 8 of RLFG Men’s 13s Championship
Week 8 of the Rugby League Federation Ghana (RLFG) Men’s 13s Championship Round 2 kicked off with intense action and major upsets as the Nungua Tigers and Accra Panthers sought redemption and made strong statements on the pitch. After an earlier loss to Skolars in Round 1, the Tigers roared back with a commanding 41–26 victory at the Legon Rugby Stadium, fueled by multiple tries from key players including Godfred Aikins, Ekow Sarkodie and captain Oliver Puman.
The Tigers’ early dominance and relentless effort proved decisive, lifting them to second place in the standings and signaling their serious intent this season.
Meanwhile, the Accra Panthers stunned defending champions Bulls RLFC with a hard-fought 22–16 win, avenging a narrow Round 1 defeat.
The Panthers capitalized on tries by Godwin Asamoah, Adam Marsuu, Jalilu Abdul, and Abdul Wadood Arimiyao, with critical conversions from Asamoah and Marsuu securing the triumph.
Despite Bulls’ efforts to claw back through Bright Bawah and Kevin Boadu, the Panthers held firm, claiming a significant victory that shakes up the league hierarchy as playoff races intensify.
In the women’s series, Accra Ladies continued their strong form with a clean 12–0 shutout against Awutu Ladies.
Fati Boom opened the scoring in the first half, while Elizabeth Anyusi Adongo put the game out of reach with a second-half try.

Though Awutu Ladies lost, their captain Celestine Kumah celebrated a milestone as it marked their first full-team game experience, emphasizing growth and resilience for the future of women’s rugby league in Ghana.
“This was our first time playing together as a full team, and it was a huge step forward. We learned a lot, and the experience has made us stronger. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and we’re only going to grow from here”; Celestine Kumah mentioned.
Following Week 8, updated standings reveal the Skolars RLFC maintaining their lead with 15 points, while the Nungua Tigers move up to second with 12 points.
Bulls RLFC and Accra Panthers trail closely, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion to the season. The intensity and rivalries are escalating with every match, promising thrilling contests as teams chase playoff spots.
Week 9 is set for another series of exciting fixtures, including the continuation of the Women’s Series with Awutu Ladies facing Accra Ladies again.
