OFFICIAL: Joan Laporta Steps Down as Barcelona President Ahead of March 2026 Elections

FC Barcelona have confirmed that Joan Laporta has stepped down as club president with effect from 9 February 2026.

 

The decision is neither linked to poor performance nor to any controversy, but is a procedural requirement under the club’s Statutes (Article 42.f), which allows him to stand for re-election in the forthcoming presidential elections scheduled for 15 March 2026.

 

In the interim, the club will be administered by a temporary board, with vice-president Rafael Yuste appointed acting president until the end of the current mandate on 30 June 2026.
