Kamaldeen signs for Atalanta

Ghanaian international Kamaldeen Sulemana has completed a permanent transfer from English side Southampton to Italian Serie A club Atalanta.

The deal, confirmed on Tuesday, sees the 22-year-old winger make a return to top-flight European football following Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League. Although the terms of the contract have not been publicly disclosed, sources indicate it is a long-term deal that reflects Atalanta’s belief in the player’s potential.

Sulemana joined Southampton in January 2023 from French club Stade Rennais in a then-club-record deal. Despite flashes of brilliance and impressive pace, he was unable to help the Saints avoid relegation at the end of the 2022/23 campaign. He made 34 appearances across all competitions for Southampton, scoring once and providing several assists.

Atalanta, who secured Champions League qualification after a strong 2024/25 season and their UEFA Europa League triumph, are looking to bolster their attacking options, and Sulemana is seen as a valuable addition to Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad.

Sulemana, who has earned over 20 caps for the Ghana national team, will now aim to reignite his career in Italy and gain consistent playing time ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.

More details on his unveiling and potential debut are expected in the coming days.
