The President and Founder of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, who also serves as the President of the Armwrestling Federation of Africa, has once again secured a seat at the highest level of the sport’s global leadership.
At the elective congress of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF), held in Albena, Bulgaria, Osei Asibey was re-elected as an Executive Board Member and Vice-President of the organisation. His renewed mandate will see him serve in this capacity for the next four years, reinforcing his influential role in shaping the development of armwrestling worldwide.
Osei Asibey’s re-election is a major boost, not only for Ghana but also for Africa, as it places the continent at the centre of global decision-making in the sport. Known as the “General” within sporting circles, he has been instrumental in promoting armwrestling across Ghana and Africa, leading campaigns to professionalise the discipline, expand participation, and create opportunities for athletes.
His continued presence on the WAF Executive Board is expected to enhance Africa’s voice in global armwrestling affairs, with a particular focus on youth development, capacity building, and international competitions.
The congress in Bulgaria brought together delegates from across the world to elect new leaders and discuss strategies for advancing the sport. Osei Asibey’s re-election is seen as a vote of confidence in his vision, leadership, and commitment to the growth of armwrestling on all fronts.
