Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has opened up about the pivotal role Christ Embassy Church and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome played in his early life, crediting them with providing him with vital support during a challenging period.
“Many Nigerians and Africans often say the church doesn’t provide help, but I cannot relate to that because of what Christ Embassy and Pastor Chris did for me,” Osimhen explained.
“After secondary school, I stopped playing football for two years because my family needed financial support. As the youngest child, I wanted to contribute, so I began working at Christ Embassy Church directly under Pastor Chris.
“There were about 15 of us from the same neighbourhood working together, distributing Rhapsody of Realities books, and we were paid fairly well. The work allowed me to meet new people, make friends, and earn a decent living at the time.
“Pastor Chris is a kind-hearted man. He prayed for us, fed us, and even provided accommodation. I lived in the church for about five months, only returning home on weekends to see my family. Today, I still support Christ Embassy financially because I know the impact they make in our communities.
“The truth is, churches do a lot of good work that rarely makes the news. There are schools and hospitals built by churches, community water projects, and many other initiatives.”
Osimhen’s reflections serve as a reminder, he said, that whilst criticisms exist, the positive contributions of religious organisations should also be acknowledged and celebrated.
