Ghana’s Police Ladies FC, reigning champions of the 2024/25 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, are set to represent the nation at the upcoming 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B Qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire.
The highly anticipated tournament, scheduled from 23 August to 4 September 2025 in Yamoussoukro, will feature eight national champions from across West Africa, with only the winner advancing to the continental showpiece. Police Ladies have been drawn in Group B, where they will face Nigerian heavyweights Bayelsa Queens FC, Togolese champions Association Sportive de La Kozah (ASKO), and Benin’s rising force Sam Nelly.
This marks Police Ladies’ first-ever appearance at the WAFU B qualifiers, a fitting reward for their maiden league triumph. Determined to make a strong impression on their continental debut, the club have already moved to strengthen their squad with a landmark signing.
The Ghanaian champions have confirmed the acquisition of Danish-born footballer Laura Juul Hansen, who carries Ghanaian heritage. Hansen’s arrival is historic as she becomes the first player of Ghanaian descent to sign for Police Ladies FC, further underlining the club’s commitment to breaking new ground in women’s football.
Her addition is seen as a major boost to the squad’s depth and quality ahead of the qualifiers, as Police Ladies aim to match up against some of West Africa’s most established women’s teams. Beyond her on-field contributions, Hansen’s signing also symbolises the growing influence of Ghanaian talent in the diaspora reconnecting with the local game.
Club officials believe that her inclusion, alongside the team’s league-winning core, will enhance their chances of making history by securing Ghana’s spot at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
With momentum from their domestic success and a reinforced squad, Police Ladies FC head to Yamoussoukro with high hopes of leaving a lasting mark on the continental stage.
