Premier League Drops Rainbow Laces and Armbands Amid Growing Controversy

11

The Premier League has confirmed that rainbow laces and rainbow captain’s armbands will no longer be permitted during the upcoming season. League officials stated that, while the initiative was originally introduced to promote inclusivity and support for the LGBTQ+ community, it has recently sparked increasing controversy and division among players, clubs, and supporters.

A spokesperson explained that the decision followed consultations with clubs and stakeholders, concluding that the campaign was now generating more disputes and negative attention than the positive awareness it was intended to raise. The Premier League emphasised that it remains committed to equality and anti-discrimination efforts, but will instead explore alternative ways to promote diversity and inclusion without causing polarisation.
