Southwark Crown Court Confirms Partey Trial for November 2026 Amid Case Backlog

London, 17 September 2025 — A trial date has been confirmed for Partey at Southwark Crown Court, with proceedings set to begin on 2 November 2026. The announcement was made by Judge Christopher Hehir outside the court on Wednesday, highlighting the ongoing strain on the UK’s criminal justice system.

The trial, delayed by more than a year, reflects the severe backlog of cases facing Crown Courts nationwide. Judge Hehir addressed the issue directly, stating:

“Your trial will take place at this court on 2 November of next year, 2026. I appreciate that this is quite a long way in advance. As you may well understand, the Crown Courts are grappling with a huge backlog of work, which inevitably means that trials are subject to significant delays. Because you have been granted bail, you are, in effect, waiting your turn behind a queue of individuals who remain in custody awaiting their trials.”

The announcement drew heavy media attention, with journalists and camera crews gathering outside the courthouse as police maintained order behind security barriers. Partey, dressed formally in a dark suit, appeared composed but reflective as the date was confirmed.

Legal analysts note that the backlog has worsened in recent years, with the COVID-19 pandemic and rising crime levels compounding the problem. The situation has forced courts to prioritise defendants held in custody over those on bail, extending wait times for many awaiting trial.

Located in central London, Southwark Crown Court is among the busiest in the country, handling a large volume of serious criminal cases. The extended delay in this high-profile trial underscores the systemic pressures facing the judiciary.

The case is expected to remain in the public eye, with further updates anticipated as the trial date approaches.
