Spanish authorities have confirmed that a tyre blowout was the cause of the tragic car accident that killed Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother, André, on the A-52 motorway in north-west Spain.

According to local official Ángel Blanco, the Lamborghini the brothers were travelling in was completely engulfed in flames after the crash, which occurred at kilometre 65.3 near the municipality of Cernadilla. Emergency services later discovered the bodies of the two men inside the burnt-out vehicle.

Initial investigations by the Guardia Civil suggest that the tyre burst occurred during an overtaking manoeuvre, causing the driver to lose control. The car veered off the road, crashed, and immediately caught fire.

The remains of both victims have been transported to the Forensic Institute of Zamora, where DNA tests are being conducted to confirm their identities due to the extent of the burns sustained in the accident.

Diogo Jota, aged just 28, had enjoyed a distinguished career, having played for FC Porto, Atlético Madrid, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and most recently Liverpool FC, where he became a fan favourite for his versatility, work ethic and eye for goal.

His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the footballing world, with tributes pouring in from fans, teammates, and clubs across the globe.
