The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, represented the Government of Ghana at the Tenth Session of the Conference of Parties (COP10) to the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sport. The high-level event took place from 20th to 22nd October 2025 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.

The session marked the 20th anniversary of the Convention and brought together ministers, sport integrity experts, and global stakeholders to reflect on two decades of collective progress in safeguarding sport values, ethics, and integrity.

Discussions focused on strengthening global governance frameworks, reviewing statutory matters, and identifying strategic reforms to tackle emerging challenges in the fight against doping in sport.

Ghana’s participation in COP10 reaffirmed the country’s commitment to clean and credible sport. Earlier in March 2024, Ghana enacted the Anti-Doping Act 2024 (Act 1116), which established a national legal framework to ensure compliance with international standards and support the protection of athletes’ rights.

During the conference, Mr Kofi Adams contributed to sessions on global funding mechanisms for anti-doping education, clarified the roles of national institutions within the sport integrity ecosystem, and supported the proposal for an independent oversight body to monitor the implementation of the Convention by States Parties.

On the margins of the conference, the Minister also held productive engagements with other Sports ministers and the African Union Sports Council on strengthening cooperation in sport development, harmonising policy direction across the continent, and reinforcing Africa’s voice in global sport governance.

Ghana’s presence at COP10 not only demonstrated alignment with international obligations but also showcased the country’s ambition to lead on issues of sport integrity, athlete welfare, and intergovernmental collaboration.
