Ghana Women’s National Team midfielder Jennifer Cudjoe has described the coming years as pivotal for the development of young players within the squad.

The experienced 31-year-old made these remarks following Ghana’s heart-breaking 4-2 defeat on penalties to Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Black Queens were aiming for a return to the WAFCON final for the first time since 2006, but fell short despite a spirited performance in regulation time. Ghana will now battle South Africa for the bronze medal on Friday, 25th July, at 19:00 GMT.

Reflecting on the loss, Cudjoe admitted it was a painful result, especially after the team squandered multiple chances to secure victory. However, she remained optimistic about the future, particularly for the younger players in the squad.

“The more we play games, the more we develop, the closer we get — and that’s how we will reach the next level,” said Cudjoe. “Players pushing each other and working hard to be better. I believe the next few years will be really huge for the young players coming through.”

The midfielder’s comments reflect a growing sense of belief within the camp that Ghana is building towards a stronger future on the continental stage.
