Newly crowned WBO Africa Bantamweight Champion, Theophilus Nii Kpakpo Allotey, popularly known as Theo Lopez (11-0), has described his recent media tour following his impressive victory over Daniel Gorsh as “exciting, educational, and inspiring.”
Speaking to Yours Truly, Allotey said, “In fact, I learnt a great deal from the questions posed by journalists, and it has helped shape my vision and direction as a professional boxer.”
Allotey, who currently holds the UBO Africa Super Flyweight and Ghana National Super Flyweight titles, is ranked 35th in the world. He revealed his preference for the Super Flyweight division, indicating that he intends to remain there while pursuing a shot at the world title, before potentially considering a move to a different weight class in the future.
Commenting on his recent WBO Africa Bantamweight title bout with Gorsh, he said the fight was meant to prove a point and to demonstrate the values of humility, sacrifice, and hard work to both fans and fellow fighters.
“Gorsh is a good boxer, but I am the better fighter. Boxing, like life, teaches us to be humble and patient. I respect and commend Gorsh for giving boxing fans a thrilling contest. With the right support, we can both become world champions,” Allotey said.
Speaking on The Big Fight Night on Omashi TV, alongside his coach, Dr Ofori Asare, and manager, Sarah Lotus Asare, the team expressed their gratitude to Legacy Rise Sports and the fans who made the Friday, 13th June event a success.
Team Allotey has since returned to the Wisdom Boxing Gym, where preparations are underway for bigger challenges, including a potential shot at the WBC International Flyweight title and other global opportunities.
Dr Asare described the fight with Gorsh as a “beautiful test of ability and character,” while affirming the enduring friendships forged through the sport.
Manager Sarah Lotus highlighted the growing recognition Theo is receiving, pointing to his service with the national boxing team, the Black Bombers, and his representation of Ghana at the Olympic Games Qualifiers and the African Games.
She also announced an upcoming ESports event scheduled for 13th July in Atukpai, Accra – the hometown of Theo Lopez, who celebrates his birthday on 11th July. Theo is expected to make an appearance at the event to inspire and educate the youth about the exciting prospects in ESports.
Meanwhile, back at the Wisdom Boxing Gym, Allotey shared joyous moments with his teammates as they celebrated his newly won title.
According to Dr Asare, the gym has a proud tradition of producing champions across different levels.
“At Wisdom Boxing, we are never afraid of a challenge. Fighting is what we do. We fight, we defend, we entertain, we punish, and above all, we respect the rules of the sport,” he declared.
