Ghanaian match officials Selorm Yao Bless and Theophilus Akugree have been handed appointments for the forthcoming WAFU Zone B Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers scheduled to take place in Côte d’Ivoire.

Bless, regarded as one of the most promising young referees in Ghana, will take charge as a centre referee during the tournament, while Akugree has been designated an assistant referee. Their inclusion places them among a select panel of eight referees and eight assistant referees carefully chosen by the West African Football Union (WAFU) to oversee the prestigious youth competition.

Both officials have steadily risen through the domestic ranks, handling fixtures in the Ghana Premier League and various national competitions, and their selection highlights the increasing trust being placed in Ghanaian referees at international level.

The WAFU B U17 AFCON qualifiers will serve as the pathway to the 2025 Africa U17 Cup of Nations, providing a platform for the next generation of football talent from West Africa. For Ghana, the appointments of Bless and Akugree add to the country’s proud tradition of producing referees who have gone on to officiate at major continental and global tournaments.

Their participation is expected not only to raise the profile of Ghanaian refereeing but also to inspire younger officials across the nation to pursue excellence in the profession.
