Abdul Fatawu Issahaku produced a moment of sheer brilliance to headline Leicester City’s 3–1 victory over Ipswich Town, earning glowing praise from head coach Marti Cifuentes.
The Ghanaian winger lit up the King Power Stadium with an audacious long-range strike from inside his own half, doubling Leicester’s advantage just before half-time. The effort, struck from nearly 65 metres, left Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton helpless and sent the home crowd into raptures.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester, Cifuentes described the result as a huge step forward and singled out Fatawu for his outstanding contribution.
“We scored fantastic goals, but we played at a high level,” Cifuentes said. “This moment of brilliance and quality from Abdul – it is a fantastic goal. It is very special, and I am happy for him because he is a good boy who works hard and is improving all the time.”
Fatawu’s wonder strike followed an early 30-yard opener from Bobby De Cordova-Reid, who continued his fine run of form. Jordan Ayew added Leicester’s third shortly after the restart, before Jens Cajuste grabbed a consolation goal for Ipswich.
Cifuentes also praised his side’s reaction after a 2–2 draw away at Bristol City earlier in the week.
“We cannot forget the things we still need to improve, but the way we responded was important,” he added.
The win lifts Leicester City to eighth in the Championship, just three points off the play-off positions, while further underlining Fatawu’s growing importance in the squad.
The Ghana international has now recorded 10 goal contributions in 20 appearances this season, cementing his status as one of Leicester’s standout performers.
