Vincent Assafuah: NDC Cannot Take Credit for Black Stars’ 2026 World Cup Qualification

The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has dismissed claims suggesting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are the only entity to take all the credit for Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Hon Assafuah, the achievements of the Black Stars are the result of deliberate investments, planning, and policies implemented by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government to strengthen Ghanaian football.

He emphasised that from youth development initiatives to improved infrastructure and consistent financial support for the national team, the NPP administration has laid a solid foundation that has now yielded results.

“The NDC cannot say they qualified the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup. All the groundwork — from coaching appointments to player development and logistical support — was done under the NPP government,” Mr Assafuah stated.

He further noted that the NPP government’s commitment to sports development, particularly football, has been evident through the rehabilitation of sporting facilities, the support of the Ghana Football Association, and the encouragement of young talents at both local and international level.

Hon Assafuah urged Ghanaians to acknowledge the NPP government’s contribution to the national team’s success while calling for continued unity and support for the Black Stars as they prepare for the final world Cup qualifying encounter in Accra.
