“WAFU Zone B Boys’ Cup: Ghana Coach Desmond Ofei Strategises to Defeat Benin”

Ghana’s U-20 head coach, Desmond Ofei, is brimming with confidence ahead of his side’s second Group A fixture in the 2025 WAFU Zone B Boys’ Cup.

The Black Satellites were held to a 1-1 draw by Nigeria in their opening match, and a defeat against Benin would see them exit the competition prematurely.

Fully aware of what is at stake, Coach Ofei is determined to secure all three points when Ghana faces the Junior Cheetahs on Wednesday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.

“This is a very important game for us. We have to win because we want to qualify,” Ofei stated at a pre-match press conference. “Despite their heavy loss against Nigeria, Benin are still a good team, so we must stay sharp, stay hungry, and not give anything away.”

He continued, “On the day, we must prove we are the better team to earn the three points. Every game is different — if you focus too much on the Nigeria game, you risk applying the wrong approach. Benin is a different opponent, so our plan must reflect that.”

Ofei expects a competitive encounter and has called on his players to maintain composure and discipline throughout.

“I think it’s going to be a physical game, so we need to be alert. Especially as we approach the final moments of the match, we must remain focused and avoid conceding. Every detail matters at this stage,” he added.
