Watford FC Women have strengthened their squad with the signing of midfielder Freda Ayisi, the club announced on July 21, 2025.

The 30-year-old Ghana international joins the Golden Girls after spending the 2024/25 season with Women’s National League Southern Premier Division rivals Hashtag United, where she scored seven goals in 16 appearances before an injury curtailed her campaign in January.

Ayisi began her senior career with Arsenal in 2013 and was part of their squad that lifted the 2014 Women’s FA Cup. During her time with the Gunners, she scored a memorable Champions League goal against FC Kairat.

She later played for Birmingham City, featuring in the 2017 FA Cup final at Wembley, before moving on to Leicester City, London City Lionesses, Lewes, Charlton Athletic, and most recently Hashtag United.

Known for her experience and midfield creativity, Ayisi brings a wealth of knowledge to Watford’s squad. Her move is seen as a significant boost for the Golden Girls as they prepare for the upcoming Women’s National League season. Watford’s coach Damon Lathrope expressed optimism about integrating a player of Ayisi’s calibre.

Ayisi’s journey highlights a successful professional career marked by resilience and versatility across several English clubs and international duty with Ghana since 2024. Her creative midfield presence and goal-scoring ability are expected to add depth and leadership to the Watford lineup.

Watford FC Women are preparing for their next league fixture against Lewes FC Women on August 17, 2025, with supporters looking forward to seeing Ayisi make an impact for the Golden Girls.
