West Ham United are bracing themselves for renewed interest from Chelsea in star midfielder Mohammed Kudus, with the Blues expected to submit a new offer if they sell Noni Madueke this summer.
Chelsea have identified Kudus as a key target due to his versatility, creativity, and proven ability to perform in both domestic and European competitions. The Ghana international enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League after joining West Ham from Ajax in August 2023 for a reported £38 million, scoring 14 goals and providing 6 assists in all competitions.
Sources close to both clubs suggest that West Ham are open to doing business with Chelsea, in contrast to their firm stance against selling Kudus to Tottenham Hotspur. The East London club are reportedly unwilling to strengthen direct Premier League rivals, particularly Tottenham, who are also monitoring Kudus closely.
Chelsea’s interest is tied to the future of winger Noni Madueke, who has emerged as a summer target for Arsenal. While Madueke has not formally requested a move, he is understood to be open to a new challenge, especially with the FIFA Club World Cup later this year potentially offering a grand stage to impress suitors. If Madueke departs, Chelsea are expected to accelerate talks for Kudus.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is said to be a big admirer of Kudus’ dynamism and technical ability, and sees him as an ideal addition to the attacking midfield/forward line. Kudus can operate as a No. 10, right winger, or even in a more central role — a tactical flexibility that suits Maresca’s evolving system.
Despite West Ham’s reluctance to lose the 23-year-old, the club could be tempted by a bid in excess of £60 million, especially with new head coach Julen Lopetegui keen to reshape the squad with his own additions. West Ham are also conscious of maintaining financial balance under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
The Hammers, however, remain in control of the situation, as Kudus signed a five-year contract with the club, keeping him at the London Stadium until 2028, with an option for an additional year.
