Wilfred Ndidi bows out of AFCON 2023 due to injury
Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been ruled out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament following an injury he picked while on duty for his club side Leicester City.
The 27-year-old is among the key players who could help strengthen the midfield of the Super Eagles going into the continental party.
Ndidi was replaced by Royal Antwerp midfielder Alhassan Yusuf who made his way into the provisional 40-man squad earlier on.
Also in the team news,Kelechi Iheanacho is likely to miss the tournament following a recent injury.
The player is being assessed as to whether he is fit to feature for his side.
The Super Eagles are currently camped in Dubai, United Arab Emirates as they gear up for the tournament.
Nigeria is caged in Group A alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau.
The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled for 13th January,2024 to 11th February,2024.
