Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has received a late call-up to the Black Stars squad ahead of the international friendly against Mexico national football team.

The experienced shot-stopper has been drafted into the squad to replace Gidios Aseako, who is unavailable for the highly anticipated encounter scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026.

Asare, who has already earned 11 senior caps for Ghana, is expected to add experience and stability to the goalkeeping department as the Black Stars continue preparations for upcoming international assignments. His impressive performances for Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League have once again caught the attention of the national team technical handlers.

The call-up serves as another major boost for the Phobians, with the goalkeeper continuing to establish himself as one of the most reliable performers in domestic football. His leadership qualities, calmness under pressure and commanding presence in goal have made him a key figure for both club and country.

The friendly against Mexico is expected to provide the Black Stars technical team with an opportunity to assess players and fine-tune the squad ahead of future competitive fixtures. The clash also promises to be a stern test against one of North America’s football powerhouses.

Benjamin Asare is expected to join the rest of the Ghana squad in camp before their departure for the international assignment.
