Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has paid a heartfelt visit to injured athletes receiving treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre during the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships Accra 2026.

The Minister visited the medical facility alongside President of the Ghana Athletics Association, Mr Bawa Fuseini, to check on the condition of athletes who sustained injuries during the championships.

During the visit, the delegation interacted with athletes, medical personnel and championship officials to gain first-hand insight into the nature of the injuries, the treatment being administered and the recovery process of the affected competitors.

Far from being a routine official engagement, the visit served as a powerful demonstration of compassion, solidarity and support for athletes who continue to represent their respective nations with courage and determination on the track and field.

Hon. Kofi Adams assured the injured athletes that their health, safety and recovery remain a top priority for the organisers and sporting authorities. He also praised the medical team at UGMC for their professionalism, dedication and swift response in caring for the athletes throughout the competition.

The visit highlighted the human side of sport, reminding many that athletics is not only about medals and competition, but also about unity, empathy and standing together in difficult moments.

As the African Senior Athletics Championships Accra 2026 continues, the event is not only delivering thrilling performances and elite competition, but also showcasing the spirit of care, togetherness and sportsmanship that continues to define African athletics.
