The Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) has officially announced a tentative schedule for the 2026 Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) elections, setting the stage for a crucial leadership transition within one of the country’s most celebrated sporting disciplines.
According to a notice issued on 18 May 2026 and signed by GBIMC Chairman Samir Captan, the Elective Congress will take place on Thursday, 4 June 2026, at the Accra Sports Stadium at 9:00 a.m.
The announcement follows an earlier notice dated 13 May 2026 and is expected to intensify political activity within Ghana’s boxing fraternity as stakeholders prepare to elect new executives to steer the affairs of the sport.
Under the timetable released by the Interim Management Committee, nomination forms for prospective candidates opened on 14 May, while submissions are expected to close on 19 May at 5:00 p.m. Vetting of candidates is scheduled for 21 May, after which the official list of approved contestants will be published on 22 and 23 May.
The schedule also outlines key deadlines for delegates, with stakeholders required to submit their delegates’ lists by 23 May. Campaign activities are expected to run from 23 May until 3 June, paving the way for what is anticipated to be a fiercely contested election.
The final certified delegates and proxy list will be published on 26 May ahead of the election day itself.
The upcoming elections are viewed as a significant moment for Ghana boxing, a sport with a rich history that has produced several world-renowned fighters and brought international recognition to the country over the decades. Many within the boxing community believe the new administration will carry the responsibility of restoring confidence, strengthening governance structures and revitalising both amateur and professional boxing nationwide.

Observers also expect discussions around athlete welfare, infrastructure development, sponsorship acquisition and international competitiveness to dominate the campaign period as candidates seek the support of delegates.
The GBIMC expressed optimism that stakeholders would cooperate fully throughout the electoral process to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible election.
