Accra Hearts of Oak are in advanced negotiations with free agent goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi as the club looks to bolster its squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Agbasi, formerly of Dreams FC, has been without a club since parting ways with the Dawu-based side earlier this year. The 23-year-old shot-stopper was previously on the radar of the Phobians during last season’s transfer window. However, a proposed move failed to materialise after the player sustained an injury midway through negotiations, halting discussions and temporarily sidelining his career prospects.

Sources close to the Hearts of Oak technical team indicate that the club has renewed its interest in Agbasi, viewing him as a valuable addition to their goalkeeping ranks, especially following inconsistencies in the department last season. Talks are said to be progressing positively, with both parties eager to reach an agreement within the next few days.

The Phobians are currently undergoing a rebuilding process under the leadership of their newly restructured technical team, and management sees Agbasi’s experience and agility as key to enhancing their defensive stability. The club is also expected to make a number of signings in the coming weeks as part of its broader plan to return to title contention in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Agbasi made a name for himself at Dreams FC with a string of impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League and the CAF Confederation Cup, where his shot-stopping abilities drew praise from fans and pundits alike. His potential signing is expected to reignite competition among the goalkeepers already in camp and provide a fresh boost of confidence for the backline.

The player, for his part, is said to be keen on joining the former continental champions and views Hearts of Oak as a strong platform to relaunch his career and regain top form.

An official announcement is expected once final terms are agreed.
