Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has been appointed as Special Adviser to the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe.

The announcement was made by Motsepe during a press conference, which is currently being streamed live on YouTube. The CAF President revealed that Pinnick will be attending all CAF meetings in his new advisory capacity.

“I did not realise Amaju was so well loved within CAF,” Motsepe remarked, seemingly in reference to the warm reception Pinnick’s return has generated. The comment also serves to underscore the strategic significance of Pinnick’s re-emergence within the organisation, despite narrowly losing his FIFA Council seat by a single vote earlier this year.

It is worth recalling that Pinnick played a pivotal role in supporting Patrice Motsepe’s candidacy for the CAF presidency. He previously served as CAF’s First Vice President during the tenure of Ahmad Ahmad, though his influence within official football circles has waned in recent years.

This latest appointment appears to be a gesture of appreciation for Pinnick’s long-standing contributions to African football—a sentiment echoed by Motsepe himself.
