Former Secretary-General of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), respected Sports Marketing and Communication strategist who also doubles as the Chief Marketing Officer of Parin FC, William Ezah has strongly advised Gor Mahia assistant coach Kobby Mensah against taking up the vacant head coaching role at Accra Hearts of Oak.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with SportsnetghTv, Ezah argued that Mensah would be better served continuing his work at Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, where he currently serves as assistant to former Black Stars coach C.K. Akonnor.
According to Ezah, the Ghanaian tactician is making significant progress in East Africa and should remain focused on helping Gor Mahia maintain their dominance in Kenyan football. He believes the club’s ongoing project presents a better opportunity for Mensah’s development than a return to the Ghana Premier League at this stage of his career.
“Kobby Mensah is working under one of Ghana’s most experienced coaches in C.K. Akonnor and is gaining valuable exposure at one of Africa’s biggest clubs. This is not the right time for him to leave that environment,” Ezah stated.
The media and branding expert further questioned Hearts of Oak’s long-term vision, suggesting that the club’s leadership has yet to provide a clear roadmap for sustained success.
“In my view, Hearts of Oak have not demonstrated a clear direction regarding where they want the club to be in the coming years. Any coach joining the club under the current circumstances faces a difficult challenge. Kobby Mensah has a promising coaching career ahead of him, and he must be careful about the decisions he makes at this stage,” he added.
Ezah warned that taking over at Hearts of Oak now could potentially stall Mensah’s upward trajectory, particularly given the intense pressure and expectations associated with managing one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs.
His comments come amid growing speculation linking Mensah with the vacant Hearts of Oak managerial position following the dissolution of the club’s technical team led by Didi Dramani. The decision was taken after the Phobians finished third in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, falling short of expectations in their quest to reclaim domestic supremacy.
With Hearts of Oak expected to embark on yet another rebuilding process ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, discussions continue over who will be entrusted with restoring the club’s fortunes. While Kobby Mensah’s name has emerged as one of the leading candidates, Ezah believes patience and continuity at Gor Mahia would be the wiser choice for the ambitious coach.
As the coaching carousel gathers momentum ahead of the new season, Mensah’s next move is likely to attract significant attention from football followers in both Ghana and Kenya.
