The Nana Prempeh Christmas Festive Gala burst into life on Wednesday at the Aunty Mercy Park, as Match Day One of the group stage produced exciting contests and competitive results, drawing a large turnout of football enthusiasts from Kumbe Opeikuma and its surrounding communities.

The opening round of matches lived up to expectations, with closely fought encounters across all four groups. In Group A, Zack Nation emerged as early pace-setters after edging Soccer Masters 1–0, while Royal City and Akoto shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Group B remained delicately poised following a series of draws involving Top Sky, Miami FC, Greatness and Adom Stars, leaving all teams level after the first round of fixtures. Group C provided the standout performance of the day, as Korania FC recorded a commanding 3–0 victory over Eagles FC to sit top of the group, while ORF FC and Sektah4 played out a stalemate. In Group D, Bornga FC and Kumbe settled for a 1–1 draw, as Celes FC and Opeikumaman FC await their first outing.

Speaking after the opening ceremony, the Chief of Kumbe Opeikuma and organiser of the tournament, Nana Prempeh, underscored the broader vision behind the competition.

“This tournament is not just about football. It is about bringing our people together in peace and unity, especially during the festive season,” Nana Prempeh stated.

“We also want to give the youth a platform to showcase their talents and inspire them to believe that football can open doors for their future.”

The matches were played in front of an enthusiastic crowd, with members of the popular supporters’ group, the Strokes, providing vibrant atmosphere and constant encouragement from the stands.

Speaking to Gideon Stokes’ one of the representatives after the games, praised the organisation and intensity of the competition.

“The games today were very exciting and well organised. You could see hunger and talent on display. This tournament means a lot to the community, and we are proud of Nana Prempeh for bringing everyone together through football,” he said.

With Match Day Two fixtures slated for Thursday, December 26, anticipation continues to rise as teams seek crucial points in the race for qualification to the knockout stages of the Nana Prempeh Christmas Festive Gala.
