Asante Kotoko Sporting Club are close to finalising the transfer of Congolese centre-back Samba O’Neil to Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv in a deal valued at approximately €150,000, sources close to the negotiations have told The sportsnetgh.com.

The discussions between all parties are understood to be at an advanced stage, with only minor contractual details left to be resolved before the move is completed. If concluded, the transfer would represent a significant boost to Kotoko’s finances and underline the club’s continued ability to develop talent capable of attracting interest from Europe.

O’Neil, who joined the Porcupine Warriors with high expectations, has been one of the club’s most consistent performers this season, earning plaudits for his composure, aerial strength and leadership at the heart of defence. His performances in domestic competitions and on the continental stage have reportedly drawn the attention of several foreign clubs, with Maccabi Tel Aviv now emerging as the frontrunners.

The Israeli champions are believed to view the Congolese international as a key addition to bolster their defensive options ahead of domestic and continental commitments. Kotoko, on the other hand, are expected to negotiate favourable add-ons, including a sell-on clause, should the deal be sealed.

An official announcement is anticipated in the coming days, subject to the successful completion of a medical and final paperwork.
