Schaefer Hails Hearts Captain Benjamin Asare as Standout Local Talent

Black Stars Technical Advisor Winfried Schaefer has identified Hearts of Oak captain Benjamin Asare as the most impressive local player he has observed since assuming his role.

The experienced German tactician, who has spent the past two months touring Ghana Premier League venues and engaging with coaches and players, singled out the goalkeeper for special praise.

“Over the past two months, I have been visiting league venues and speaking with coaches and players. The best player I have seen is Benjamin Asare, and he is the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper,” Schaefer told Medeama FM.

Schaefer emphasised the importance of the domestic league to the growth of Ghanaian football, insisting that the foundation of the national team lies at home.

“The heart of football in Ghana is in the local league, not only with players in Europe,” he stated.

He also delivered a strong message to locally based players, urging them to remain focused and committed if they aspire to represent the senior national team.

“I urge all players to work hard if they want to earn a call-up into the Black Stars,” he added.

Schaefer’s comments are likely to boost confidence within the domestic league, as the technical team continues to assess talent ahead of upcoming international assignments.
