Eighteen Senegalese supporters arrested in Morocco are due to appear before a court in Rabat today amid growing concerns from their legal representatives over the fairness of the proceedings.
The group was detained in recent days under circumstances that have not yet been fully clarified by the authorities. Details surrounding the charges remain unclear, raising anxiety among both families and members of the Senegalese community.
Lawyers representing the supporters have expressed serious reservations about the legal process. According to the coordinator of the defence team, Me Patrick Kabou, the legal representatives have been denied access to their clients and have not been formally informed of the precise allegations against them.
“This situation is deeply troubling,” Me Kabou said, warning that the lack of transparency could compromise the defendants’ right to a fair trial. He stressed that without access to the accused or full knowledge of the case file, the defence team is unable to adequately prepare.
Human rights observers have also highlighted the importance of ensuring due process, particularly in cases involving foreign nationals. Diplomatic sources indicate that efforts are being made to monitor the situation closely.
