The President of the Confederation of African Football, Dr Patrice Motsepe, has successfully concluded his official visit to Senegal following a high-level meeting with the country’s leader, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.
The engagement marked the climax of Dr Motsepe’s visit, highlighting the deepening collaboration between African football’s governing body and national governments in advancing the development of the sport across the continent. The CAF President’s trip forms part of a broader diplomatic and strategic outreach aimed at strengthening partnerships with key football nations in Africa.
Discussions during the meeting reportedly focused on enhancing football infrastructure, expanding youth development programmes, and increasing investment in grassroots football. Both parties also explored opportunities to improve stadium facilities, coaching standards, and administrative capacity, in line with CAF’s long-term vision of making African football globally competitive and commercially attractive.
Senegal, widely regarded as one of Africa’s leading football nations, continues to play a pivotal role in CAF’s strategic agenda. The country’s recent successes on the international stage, coupled with its commitment to nurturing young talent, have positioned it as a model for sustainable football development on the continent.
Dr Motsepe is understood to have commended the Senegalese government for its continued support of football, noting that strong political backing remains essential to the growth of the game. He reiterated CAF’s commitment to working closely with member associations to unlock funding opportunities, attract private sector investment, and ensure that football serves as a tool for social and economic development.
For his part, President Faye reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to sports development, stressing the importance of football in promoting national unity and creating opportunities for the youth. He also expressed Senegal’s readiness to collaborate with CAF on future initiatives, including hosting major continental competitions and expanding football infrastructure across the country.
The visit is expected to further strengthen ties between CAF and Senegal, while reinforcing the governing body’s mission to elevate African football to greater heights on the global stage.
