Kyereh Nears Comeback After Three-Year Injury Ordeal at Freiburg

Ghana international Daniel-Kofi Kyereh is edging closer to a long-awaited return to competitive football after nearly three years on the sidelines with a serious knee injury.

The attacking midfielder has been out of action since February 2023 after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), one of the most severe injuries in professional sport. The setback required surgery followed by an extensive and carefully managed rehabilitation programme, during which Kyereh faced a number of frustrating delays and minor complications that prolonged his absence.

Now, in a significant boost for both club and country, the 29-year-old has resumed full training with SC Freiburg. His return to team sessions marks a crucial milestone in his recovery, raising hopes that he could soon make his long-awaited comeback in the Bundesliga.

Kyereh, who joined Freiburg in 2022 after an impressive spell with FC St. Pauli, was regarded as one of Ghana’s most creative midfielders prior to his injury. Known for his versatility, technical ability and eye for goal, his absence has been keenly felt by the Black Stars, particularly during major international assignments.

Medical staff at Freiburg are expected to monitor his progress closely in the coming weeks, with a gradual reintegration into matchday squads likely to be prioritised over any rushed return. Club officials remain cautiously optimistic, emphasising the importance of ensuring the midfielder regains full fitness and confidence before stepping back onto the pitch.

For Kyereh, the latest development represents not just a return to training, but the final stretch of a long and challenging road to recovery—one that could yet see him re-establish himself at the highest level of European football.
