MTN FA Cup: Aduana Stars eliminate Asante Kotoko in the R16

Aduana Stars have beaten Asante Kotoko by a lone goal to eliminate them from the Round 16 of the 2022/23 MTN FA Cup at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park at Dormaa Ahenkro.

Sam Adams’ well-taken spot kick in the second half was enough to hand the two time Ghanaian champions a place in the next round of the competition.

The game which started on a slow pace gathered momentum just before half an hour mark when both teams had warmed themselves into the game.

On the 24th minutes, goalkeeper Frederick Asare had to save Asante Kotoko from conceding the first goal of the game when he parried away a ball from a throw in by Anokye Badu inside the box which evaded the defenses of Asante Kotoko.

That was the only meaningful incursion done in the half that saw Andrews Kwadwo Appau and Richmond Lamptey of Asante Kotoko going into the referee’s books.

The host had a powerful start to the second half with clear intention to beat the visitors before the end of the game.

Mohammed Alhassan denied Aduana Stars striker movement in the box which resulted in a penalty kick for the home side on the 56th minutes.

Former Asante Kotoko winger Sam Adams stepped in to slot home in aplomb to give the home side the lead on the 59th minutes.

Asante Kotoko had to regather to make amends in the game by bringing on Eric Serge Zeze to replace Richmond Lamptey but it yielded no positive results.

Asante Kotoko failed to equalize to give Aduana Stars the bragging right and the opportunity to make the double a possibility in the 2022/23 season as they currently lead the Ghana Premier League table after Match Day 18.

Aduana Stars, thus, progress to the Quarter Finals of the competition slated for April 2023.
