The President of Zamalek Football Club Mortada Mansour will be incarcerated for a month after verbally abusing the President of rival club Al Ahly, Mahmoud Al-Khatib as rivalry between both clubs takes a bitter twist.
Mortada Mansour, 70, poured vituperations on Al-Khatib back in 2021 where the latter filed a case against the former which has led to the incarceration of the Zamalek President.
The defeated Parliamentary candidate who was removed from the Egyptian lawmaking chamber, was sentenced to a year in prison which was later reduced to just a month after an appeal was raised.
Mansour Mortada took to his social media to state: “Finally, the president of the Al Ahly jailed the president of the Zamalek for the first time in the history of the sport.
“The appeal has been refused, pending the decision of the heavenly judge Almighty God. Don’t worry about me, lions are not afraid of death, and they are not afraid of being imprisoned either.
“The plan was to overthrow me in the elections by fraudulent means, before that I was secluded from the Zamalek presidency for four years, after which the board of directors was dissolved, and the fourth step was to send me to prison.
“This step got delayed, praise God. Egyptians and Zamalek fans now believe it. I had to completely disappear from the political, sports, and media scene at any cost,” he wrote.
The rivalry between Zamalek and Al Ahly have lived centuries with their first meeting dating as far as 1917 and has now gone beyond just football but political and personal rivalry.
Al Ahly have 144 trophies including 42 Egyptian League titles and 10 CAF Champions League whiles Zamalek have 77 trophies in their history including 14 Egyptian League titles and 5 Champions League trophies.
