AFCON 2023: We are the team everyone aims to beat-Morocco’s Azzedine Ounahi
Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi says his side is the target for all 23 participating teams in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast following their exploits at the 2022 World Cup.
The North African side beat all odds to carry the continent on their shoulders as semi finalists beating Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Canada and some big names in the world.
Speaking ahead of the biennial tournament, the Marseille midfielder said “Perceptions have shifted after Qatar. We are now the team everyone at AFCON 2023 aims to beat in friendlies or official competition.”
He said following the expectations of many Moroccan fans, it was important for the team to be fully prepared with a high level of focus in every game.
The 23-year-old said winning the 2023 AFCON title would help his side in making history as they host the tournament in 2025.
“We won’t claim that we will go and win the Africa Cup of Nations, but being 100% ready is the most crucial aspect,” he added.
Morocco is caged in Group F alongside DR Congo, Tanzania and Zambia.
