Italian Serie A side Atalanta have reached an agreement with English Championship club Southampton for the transfer of Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, in a deal worth €17.5 million.

The highly-rated 22-year-old is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days before finalising personal terms and completing the move to Bergamo. Sulemana’s transfer comes after weeks of negotiations between both clubs, with Atalanta keen on bolstering their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Kamaldeen joined Southampton from French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais in January 2023 for a then-club record fee. Despite flashes of brilliance, his stint in England was marred by injury setbacks and limited opportunities, particularly after the Saints’ relegation to the Championship. He made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists.

Known for his blistering pace, dribbling ability, and versatility on the wings, Sulemana is seen as a perfect fit for Gian Piero Gasperini’s dynamic system at Atalanta, who are preparing for a return to European football next season following a strong finish in Serie A.

The transfer also marks another significant move for a Ghanaian international in the European summer window, as Sulemana seeks to revive his career and stake a claim for regular playing time ahead of Ghana’s 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The deal is subject to medical examinations and final contractual agreements, but both clubs have confirmed that a fee has been agreed. Further announcements are expected shortly.
