Asante Kotoko are poised to appoint Abdul Karim Zito as the club’s substantive head coach, following a commendable performance during his interim tenure, sources close to the club have disclosed.

Zito stepped in midway through the season after the departure of former head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum. His impact was swift and effective, earning admiration from the club’s hierarchy, including the Life Patron, His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Zito’s tactical approach and steady leadership during a turbulent period have reportedly convinced the decision-makers of his suitability for the permanent role.

During his brief spell in charge, Kotoko played seven matches, suffering only one defeat. This positive run not only steadied the team but also rekindled optimism among supporters and boosted morale within the squad.

Sources indicate that Otumfuo has given his strong backing to Zito’s appointment, with reports suggesting that the revered monarch is not in favour of appointing a foreign (commonly referred to as “white”) coach at this time—an opinion that has significantly shaped the club’s direction.

Zito, a former Dreams FC coach and an experienced figure in Ghanaian football, is widely respected for his emphasis on discipline, youth development, and tactical flexibility.

According to media reports, Zito has signed a two-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors. He has been tasked with rebuilding the team, mounting a serious challenge in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, and delivering a strong campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
