Ghana has once again been awarded the honour of hosting the Africa Aquatics (AA) Zone 2 Junior and Senior Swimming Championships, with the event set to take place at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra from 3rd to 5th October 2025.

This will be the second consecutive year—and the fourth time overall—that Ghana hosts the prestigious championships, solidifying its growing reputation as a key destination for aquatic sports in West and Central Africa.

Last year’s successful staging of the event earned praise for Ghana’s world-class facilities and its capacity to organise events of international standard. Building on that momentum, a seven-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) was unveiled last Thursday in Accra to spearhead preparations for this year’s edition.

Chaired by seasoned sports administrator Dr Frederick Boamah, the LOC was officially inaugurated by the Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Yaw Ampofo Ankrah. He called on the committee to deliver a tournament that reflects Ghana’s rising influence on the continental swimming scene.

The championships will bring together elite junior and senior swimmers from across the Zone 2 region, with medals, honours, and World Aquatics ranking points on the line—key for athletes aspiring to compete on the global stage.

In his remarks, Dr Boamah expressed gratitude and outlined the committee’s commitment to excellence.

“It is an honour to accept this responsibility, not just for myself but on behalf of my fellow committee members,” he said. “To lead is to serve, and we fully understand the expectations placed on us. We are committed to delivering a successful event that makes Ghana proud.”

The full list of LOC members includes:

  • Seth Nti (Secretary)

  • Ayishatu Farida Iddriss

  • Mohammed Aputeog

  • Hubert Leo Mensah (NSA Representative)

  • Elizabeth Addae

  • Aba Katu

Preparations are already underway to ensure another memorable edition of the Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships in Accra.
