Katia Aveiro, sister of Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo, has taken to Instagram to deliver a deeply emotional message in defence of her brother following criticism surrounding his absence at a recent family funeral.

In her heartfelt post, Katia recalled the harrowing experience her family endured following the death of their father, citing the chaos caused by media intrusion and public insensitivity — even at the cemetery.

> “When our father died, the pain wasn’t just from the loss, but also from the avalanche of cameras and onlookers, even in the cemetery. It was indescribable destruction… graves destroyed, walls scaled without any respect,” she wrote.

Katia described how the family couldn’t mourn in peace and dignity, stating that she was too overwhelmed by grief to even recall who offered condolences at the time.

> “There were people in charge, the national team coach… but I don’t even remember who greeted me. The pain was too intense.”

She then addressed the recent online criticism directed at Ronaldo, who has been the subject of scrutiny for not being physically present during the funeral of two family members. Katia made it clear that she would no longer tolerate what she described as “gratuitous judgments” and “blind extremism.”

> “To those who criticise my brother’s absence or doubt his support, I won’t argue. I’m blocking myself. I’m fed up with the gratuitous judgments and blind extremism. Our society is sick… without empathy, without conscience.”

The singer and influencer expressed deep disappointment at how media outlets and social media users have handled the tragedy, focusing more on Ronaldo’s absence than the grief of a mourning family.

> “What hurts me is seeing the media and social media talk about his absence instead of respecting a devastated family that has lost two of their children. I’m ashamed of this reality,” she lamented.

She concluded her post with a poignant reflection on the state of modern society:

> “That’s the way the world is these days: worthless opinions, heartless people.” 💔🕊️

Her words have struck a chord with fans and followers, many of whom have voiced their support for the Ronaldo family during this difficult time.
