The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has cleared the outstanding allowances owed to the Ghana Black Queens ahead of their decisive final group match against Tanzania in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The timely payment is expected to boost team morale as they prepare to fight for a place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, Her Excellency Charity Gbedawo, disclosed that the team had faced delays in receiving their financial entitlements, which created some challenges during the early stages of the competition.
“They had a few challenges along the way — their finances were delayed a bit. But to the glory of God, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, facilitated the quick release of the money, and they have now been sorted out,” she told Joy Sports.
Ambassador Gbedawo expressed confidence that the resolution of the issue would lift the spirits of the players ahead of Monday’s must-win encounter.
“Their morale has gone up, so on this note, I believe they are going to make Ghana proud. I know they will score — they will win — and move on to the next stage,” she added.
The Black Queens currently sit bottom of Group C after two matches — a 2–0 defeat to South Africa and a 1–1 draw with Mali. To progress, Ghana must secure a convincing win over Tanzania and hope for a favourable outcome in the group’s other fixture between South Africa and Mali.
