Ghana’s Black Queens concluded a spirited campaign at the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco with four Woman of the Match honours from their six fixtures — a reflection of the individual brilliance that powered their journey to the podium.

The team, led by head coach Nora Häuptle, displayed consistency and flair throughout the tournament, culminating in a well-deserved third-place finish after defeating Algeria in the bronze medal match.

Woman of the Match Awards:

🇲🇱 vs Mali – Jennifer Cudjoe: The experienced midfielder controlled the tempo of the game with her commanding presence in the centre of the park.

🇹🇿 vs Tanzania – Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah: The British-born winger was a constant threat down the flanks, capping her performance with a goal and an assist.

🇩🇿 vs Algeria – Grace Asantewaa: The energetic midfielder pulled the strings in midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively.

🇿🇦 vs South Africa – Alice Kusi: A standout in a tightly contested semi-final, Kusi’s relentless pressing and creativity earned her the top individual honour.

The Black Queens opened their tournament with a hard-fought group stage, advancing to the knockout rounds with key wins against Tanzania and Algeria. Although they fell short in the semi-final clash against defending champions South Africa, Ghana regrouped impressively to secure a 2–1 victory in the third-place play-off.

The bronze medal marks Ghana’s first podium finish at WAFCON since 2016, signalling a revival of the national team under a new era of tactical discipline, unity, and renewed confidence.

As the nation celebrates this milestone, attention now turns to preparations for future tournaments, with many tipping this talented squad for even greater achievements in the years to come.
