The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, has clarified that the proposal to extend the GFA President’s term of office originated from member clubs and other constituent bodies, not the Association itself.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Mr Addo distanced the country’s football governing body from claims that it had orchestrated the move, countering media reports that have circulated in recent weeks.

He also addressed speculation that the proposal was designed to allow the current GFA President, Kurt Okraku, to seek a third term in office.

His remarks follow a recommendation by the GFA’s Statutes Review Committee to increase the presidential term limit from two to three terms. This proposal is set to be considered at the 31st Ordinary Congress, scheduled for 12 August 2025 at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

“The decision to extend the GFA presidential term was put forward by the clubs, the leadership of the Regional Associations Group (RAG), and other Congress members,” Mr Addo stated.

“This was not initiated by the GFA. In fact, the proposal was made three years ago,” he added.
